Selecting the Right Nutrient Kit: 2.2 CF Bale Kit Mix into a 2.2 CF Bale of Peat Moss plus 3 Cubic Feet of Compost and 3 Cubic Feet of Aeration. 3.0 CF Bale Kit Mix into a 3.0 CF Bale of Peat Moss plus 4.67 Cubic feet of Compost and 4.67 Cubic feet of Aeration. (Most people will round up or down to the nearest Cubic Foot) 3.8 CF Bale KitMix into 3.8 CF Bale of Peat Moss plus 6 Cubic Feet of Compost and 6 Cubic Feet of Aeration. Mix and then let sit for 1-2 weeks before planting. Useful Info Building your own soil? This is our preferred method... This Recipe is inspired by and credited to Mr. "ClackamasCoots" aka "LumperDawgz" I have always wanted to offer a nutrient kit in the style of ClackamasCoots. This nutrient kit is proven. It works because it is such a simple and affordable starting point to base your soil from. Use this kit and our free DIY nutrient E-Book and you will have healthy soil and healthy plants. (CC is by no way connected to this Nutrient Kit, but it is his recipe and I have his blessing) Want to learn more about Building soil? Check out this blog article: Building Soil Article What you'll be getting in the Kit: Free Shipping Nutrients: (Use at 2.5 Cups Per cubic foot of soil or about 5-6 Tablespoon per gallon of soil) 1. Crustacean Meal - Crab and Shrimp 2. Kelp Meal - Thorvin Organic Icelandic kelp 3. Neem Cake/Karanja Cake 70/30 - West Coast Hort. Neem and Ahimsa Karanja 4. Milled Malted Barley - Premium Organic 2 Row Malted Barley Minerals: (Use at 4 Cups Per Cubic foot of soil or about 1/2 Cup per gallon of soil) 1. BuildASoil Basalt - Our Favorite Rock Dust for trace minerals. Highly paramagnetic. 2. Gypsum Dust - Calcium and Sulfur 3. Oyster Shell Flour - Calcium Carbonate - Adds available calcium and limes the Peat moss. We separate the two so that the natural moisture in the rock dust doesn't effect the raw nutrients. Dump all the material into your soil for the proper mineral and nutrient balance. What You'll Need To Get To Finish The Recipe: To finish this recipe you will need equal parts of the below, 1 Part Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss: Available in 2.2 Cubic Foot Bales, 3.0 Cubic Foot Bales and 3.8 Cubic Foot Bales at Home Depot and most gardening stores. Notice: The 2.2 Bale will fluff up to about 3.0 Cubic Feet, the 3.0 Bale will fluff up to about 4.67 Cubic Feet (Most people will round up or down to the nearest Cubic Foot) and the 3.8 Bale will fluff to about 6 Cubic Feet. 1 Part High Quality Compost or Worm Castings: Search for local compost or castings on craigslist or order some here on our website. If opting to use worm castings, we advise using only 5-15% of the 33% total compost due to the potential for sodium excess. 1 Part Aeration Amendment: Something to aerate the soil like perlite does in normal potting mix. We like to use Pumice and Rice hulls but you can use whatever is available to you including perlite, rice hulls, lava rock, pumice etc. You'll notice there isn't any High P ingredient like Soft Rock Phosphate or Fish Bone Meal and after speaking with Coot about this I realized a few things. This Kit has many ingredients that contain Phosphorous at normal levels which will not be harmful to Mycorrhizal fungi. High P amendments can have a negative effect on the soil Mycorrhizal life, for this reason Coot recommends using this recipe. Here is the Mix as written by ClackamasCoots: Equal parts of Sphagnum peat moss, some aeration deal (pumice, rice hulls, lava rock - whatever is sitting in the garage) and finally some mix of humus - my compost, worm castings some black leaf mold I bought from the local 'worm guy' To each 1 c.f. of this mix I add the following: 1/2 cup organic Neem meal 1/2 cup organic Kelp meal 1/2 cup Crab meal (or Crustacean meal when available - it has Shrimp meal with the Crab meal. It's a local product from the fisheries on the Oregon & Washington Coasts)4 cups of some minerals - rock dustAfter the plant is in the final container I top-dress with my worm castings at 2" or so and then I hit it with Aloe vera juice and Comfrey extract. Or Borage. Or Stinging Nettle. Or Horsetail ferns. Whatever is ready. That's it. Why re-invent the wheel? This proven mix is simple. If you intend on using sphagnum peat moss then this kit is perfect for you. With the low PH of peat moss this kit comes with oyster flour to add lots of calcium and also help raise the ph to proper levels. If you would like Build A Soil with another base like, Bagged Potting Soil, Pro-Mix, Sunshine Mix or even Coconut Coir then you'll want to check out our other products. Why is this Nutrient Kit So important? "A wonderful thing about a balanced, mineralized soil based on the soil's exchange capacity is that everything else becomes easier. The soil pH self-adjusts to its optimum, plant disease and insect problems largely disappear, water retention, drainage, soil texture, and rate of decay of organic matter all become self-regulating and automatic, weather permitting. The grower knows that the nutrients are in the crop because the nutrients are available in the soil. The soil life is active and healthy and helping to make these nutrients available, and the plants growing on this ideal soil have free-choice of any nutrient they want, in balance, a balance designed by intelligent science and observation." - Michael Astera How To Use Nutrients:Use at 2 Cups Per cubic foot of soil or about 4 Tablespoon per gallon of soil Minerals:Use at 4 Cups Per Cubic foot of soil or about 1/2 Cup per gallon of soil

SEED MEAL FOR WEED AND DISEASE CONTROL IN TURF Mustard Seed Meal for Management of Root-knot Nematode and Weeds in Tomato Production Using High Glucosinolate Mustard as a Cover Crop to Reduce Weeds and Disease Biologically Active Compounds in Mustard Seeds: A Toxicological Perspective PELLETS vs. MILLED Mustard Seed Meal Fertilizer is available in two different forms: Pelleted and Milled. Each of the two forms are from the exact same formulation, but have different uses and benefits. PELLETS Mustard Seed Meal Pellets are best used in applications where a slow release of fertilizer is desired. The pellets are less distributed throughout the soil and therefore break down at a slower rate. This is ideal for situations where long-lasting, slow release fertilizer is desirable. Application can be done by hand, or by pellet spreader/injector. The pellets are strong and hold together well, minimizing breakage in mechanical spreaders. In most cases, this is the most desirable form for top- or side-dressing, potted horticulture and backyard gardeners. MILLED Milled Mustard Seed Meal Fertilizer is simply a result of grinding and crushing the pellets into a powder-like consistency. When applied to the soil, Milled is better distributed throughout the soil profile. This allows for a more uniform availability and quicker release of nutrients. It is also more rapidly consumed by microorganisms, quickly creating a healthy living soil. It is best applied by hand or by a drop spreader (mulch/compost spreader). Careful consideration should be taken while using mechanized spreaders as the material has a high oil content that may cause clumping or clogging of machinery. It is best spread during days with mild temperatures and low humidity to avoid clumping. Milled is recommended for most pre-plant applications on the farm, garden, or container growing. As always, be sure to allow for a minimum three-week plant back with all pre-plant applications. Applications of Mustard Seed Meal selects for specific bacterial and fungal communities in the soil. These specific communities work to improve nutrient availability for the crop, reduce plant stress, increase plant vigor, and improve yields. Scientists nation-wide have reported a consistent promotion of soil fungal and bacterial communities containing Trichoderma spp., Streptomyces spp., Pseudomonas spp., Anthrobotrys spp., Plectosphaerella cucumerina, Dactylella oviparasitica, Paecilomyces lilacinus and many more. Each of these beneficial microbes play a crucial role in the complex interaction occurring between soil and roots creating a long-lasting symbiotic relationship that aids in the enhanced production and protection of crops. Remember, rice bran is also an option, but it tends to be pricier than wheat bran. 🌾 Ingredients Ingredient 10 lbs 25 lbs 50 lbs Yah-Whey or EM1 4 Tablespoons 3 Ounces 3/4 Cup Molasses 4 Tablespoons 3 Ounces 3/4 Cup Water 10 Cups 1.5 - 2 Gallons 2 - 4 Gallons Bran (carbon material) 10 lbs 25 lbs 50 lbs Procedure Mix one gallon of the water with the molasses to dissolve the molasses. Mix in the Yah-Whey or EM1 Mix the liquid thoroughly into the bran. Squeeze some of the bran into a ball. If it holds shape and no extra liquid comes out, it is the correct moisture. Put into bag or container. If it is too dry, add more water and mix. If using the bag, tie the bag tightly, squeezing out excess air. If using a container, press down mixture and cover container tightly. Place mixture somewhere warm and out of the way. Let it ferment for a minimum of two weeks. Longer is fine. After fermentation, check for white mold on/in the bokashi. This is a good sign! Black or green mold is undesirable and indicates air exposure or excess moisture. Adjust accordingly for future batches. Store your bokashi in a closed container for up to 2 weeks, or dry for long-term storage. Keep airtight during storage, whether dry or wet. 🛍️ Don't have time to make it yourself? No problem! You can purchase ready-to-use Bokashi right here on our website. Happy composting! 🌱

Insect Frass - Black Soldier Fly Larvae - Derived from an incredible company in Canada all from the digestate of black soldier fly larvae. In all natural ecosystems (where there are no man-made chemical pesticides), insects feed on and digest vegetation, and give it right back to plants in the form of nature's perfect plant food. Plants benefit insects - Insects benefit plants! 100% Organic plant food, and so much more... Estimated NPK Value of 3-2-4   Weighs roughly 4 oz per cup. Insect Frass naturally contains the nutrition plants require, beneficial micro-organisms, and the only immediately plant-available source of chitin (pronounced “Kite-in”). Chitin fortifies a plant from the inside out, causing an "auto-immune" response that signals a plant to produce natural toxins which fend off its natural enemies like pests and fungal pathogens. The EPA says that chitin and chitosan (see FAQ's) defend against botrytis (grey mold), powdery mildew, early and late blight, fungal pathogens in the root zone (root rot) and root-feeding nematodes. Insect Frass does NOT cause a plant to kill beneficial insects or beneficial nematodes. Insect Frass is NOT a pesticide. Insect Frass is NOT a fungicide. Insect Frass will NOT put insects into your garden. Give your plants all the benefits of Insect Frass, without the bugs! How To Use For soil building or top dressing, apply at a rate of 1/4 - 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil.

We love this rice bran for soil building! We purchase OMRI listed rice bran and it is excellent for building soil. This material is very high in P and our most recent test shows over 6% water soluble phosphorous which is very hard to find in organics. Another reason we offer this rice bran, is because its an excellent nutrient for making your own fermented fertilizer called Bokashi. Besides this rice bran, you will also need molasses, water, and EM-1. A link to this recipe can be found Here Useful Info The bran is the hard outer layers of cereal grain. It consists of the combined aleurone and pericarp. Rice bran is a byproduct of the rice milling process (the conversion of brown rice to white rice), and it contains various antioxidants that impart beneficial effects on human health. A major rice bran fraction contains 12%-13% oil and highly unsaponifiable components (4.3%). This fraction contains tocotrienols (a form of vitamin E), gamma-oryzanol and beta-sitosterol; all these constituents may contribute to the lowering of the plasma levels of the various parameters of the lipid profile. Rice bran also contains a high level of dietary fibres (beta-glucan, pectin and gum). In addition, it also contains ferulic acid, which is also a component of the structure of nonlignified cell walls. Occasional presence of weevils in rice bran can occur is harmless to plants and can even be beneficial when used in the production of bokashi compost. How to Use Bokashi: The Original EM•1® Bokashi Recipe   To make your own EM•1® Bokashi (in this recipe) you'll need some bran (or some other dried plant material), some EM•1®, molasses, and fresh water. A 50-pound bag of wheat bran made into bokashi costs very little to make (including the EM•1® Microbial Inoculant, molasses, and bran). Organic rice bran and organic wheat bran cost more but are better because they avoid GMO crops and possible pesticide contamination. This recipe takes about 20 minutes from start to finish to make a 50-pound bag of EM•1® Bokashi. It needs to ferment for a minimum of two weeks and then is dried for long-term storage (up to several years). If you choose not to make it, you can purchase it ready to use. Where to get the ingredients: BuildASoil.com or your local feed store but beware of non-organic inputs!   Ingredient 10 lbs 50 lbs 2,000 lbs EM•1 ® 4 Tablespoons 3/4 Cup 1 Gallon Molasses 4 Tablespoons 3/4 Cup 1 Gallon Water 10 Cups 3-4 Gallons 75-100 Gallons Bran (carbon material) 10 lbs 50 lbs 2000 lbs
