Delivery and Shipping

Shipping Policy

Shipping is expensive, and it gets more expensive almost every year. We are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is that we work hard to find the most reliable and affordable way to get your order to you, and we pass along free shipping wherever it makes sense.

Free shipping on any order with two or more items. The one exception is bulk items, meaning the large or heavy products that have to move by freight or oversized parcel. If your cart qualifies, free shipping is applied automatically at checkout.

Why two items and not a dollar amount?

Most stores set free shipping at a dollar threshold. That works when you sell light things like clothing. We don't. We ship soil, amendments, and heavy real goods that are expensive and awkward to move, so a dollar minimum doesn't reflect what shipping actually costs us.

We are a small business with no outside financial backing, and we are not Amazon. We manufacture, pack, and ship everything in house so we can control quality, which means real people picking, boxing, taping, and labeling every order, and that means real jobs. When we ship a single item for free, the only way to cover it is to raise prices across the board, and we would rather not do that. Asking for two or more items on free orders lets us keep prices lower for everyone and keep shipping sustainable. We hate high shipping costs as much as you do, and this is the fairest way we have found to keep them down.

Carriers

We ship with FedEx, UPS, and USPS, and we pick the carrier that gets your order to you reliably at the best cost. We cannot guarantee a specific carrier unless you arrange it with us ahead of time.

PO Boxes

Orders to PO Boxes often cost more and usually do not qualify for free shipping. Use a physical address to avoid delays and added fees.

Outside the Continental US

We ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands. Free shipping generally does not apply to large or bulky items going to these destinations, though Hawaii and Alaska have more flexibility depending on carrier policy. Rates are quoted at checkout or on request.

Canada

We ship select items to Canada. Canadian customers need to choose "UPS Standard Shipping to Canada" at checkout so your order clears customs cleanly and you avoid surprise brokerage fees. Orders placed with other methods can be delayed or rejected at the border.

Vendor-Fulfilled Items

Some products ship directly from our vendor partners and show their own estimated ship dates on the product page. Questions about these go to support@buildasoil.com.

Freight Shipments

Freight orders arrive on pallets by box truck or semi. We assume you need liftgate service unless you tell us otherwise.

Inspect every freight shipment before you sign. Count the packages and check for damage. Signing the delivery receipt confirms the order arrived complete and undamaged, so note any problem on the receipt before you sign it.

Full Truckloads

Full truckload (FTL) orders are custom quoted after checkout based on your location, order volume, and how the truck will be unloaded.

  • Let us know if you have a dock, forklift, or other unloading equipment.
  • Tell us if you need liftgate or manual unload service.
  • Email support@buildasoil.com ahead of time for an FTL quote.
Order Tracking

We email tracking as soon as your order ships. If it does not arrive, check buildasoil.aftership.com with your order details, or email support@buildasoil.com.

Shipping Protection

This optional add-on at checkout covers your shipment against loss, theft, and damage, and we fast-track those claims for replacement or resolution. Even with protection, photos and documentation help us move carrier claims along faster.

Claims

Send all claims to support@buildasoil.com. We do not process claims by phone.

Include:

  • A description of the issue
  • Photos or video of the damage, or of missing or incorrect items
  • Images of the packaging and labels

Hold onto the packaging and any damaged items until the claim is resolved, since carriers may require an inspection.

Claim deadlines

  • Damage or missing items: within 60 days of delivery
  • Incorrect products: within 60 days of shipment
  • Lost or misdelivered packages: within 60 days of shipment
Once Your Order Leaves Our Facility

We help with every carrier claim we can. But once an order is in the carrier's hands, we cannot control delays, damage, or misdelivery, and the carrier makes the final call on claims.

Description

One ingredient. Nothing else.

The original Horticultural Coconut

100% pure freeze dried young coconut water powder. No maltodextrin, no starch, no anti-caking agent, no fillers of any kind. Open the bag and the only thing in it is coconut water with the water taken out.

Growers have been using coconut water in the garden since Clackamas Coot started talking about it around 2010. We were the first to make it a real product, and fifteen years later growers still swear by it.

Why growers use it

Coconut water is the liquid endosperm of a young coconut. Biologically, it is the nutrient solution a seed built for itself to grow an entire tree out of. That is a very different thing from a nutrient someone mixed in a factory.

It is nature's original sprouted seed tea

Clackamas Coot invented sprouted seed teas: soak and sprout a seed, then feed your plants the water. The reason it works is that a germinating seed floods its surroundings with enzymes, hormones and growth compounds. Coconut water is that same principle at enormous scale. It is a giant sprouted seed tea, already made and already concentrated.

Its most famous component is cytokinin, the phytohormone group associated with cell division and lateral branching. This is not folklore. Coconut water has been used as a standard growth supplement in plant tissue culture and micropropagation for decades, precisely because of its phytohormone content. Alongside the cytokinins you get sugars, minerals, vitamins and amino acids, all in a form plants and soil biology can use immediately.

It works as a foliar spray, as a soil drench, and at acreage scale through drip. Growers run it through both veg and flower.

Why freeze dried, not spray dried

Spray drying blasts the liquid through hot air. It is fast, it is cheap, and it is what almost everyone else does. It also has a problem: pure coconut water is too sticky and too hygroscopic to spray dry on its own, which is why spray dried products almost always need a carrier like maltodextrin added before drying. The carrier is not a bonus ingredient. It is a processing crutch.

Freeze drying removes the water without heat. The enzymes, hormones and nutrients survive intact, and no carrier is required, which is how we end up with a product that is genuinely one ingredient. It costs more to make. It is worth it.

How to use it

Foliar or drench 1/2 to 1 tsp
per gallon

Use through both veg and flower. Start at 1/2 tsp and work up.

Larger batches 1/3 lb per
50 gallons

Or 1 pound per 150 gallons. Same rate, bigger tank.

Acreage 1/2 to 1 lb
per acre

1/2 pound per acre foliar, 1 pound per acre through drip.

Mix into your water, give it a few minutes to go into solution, then stir. It contains no preservatives, so mix what you need and use it fresh.

Which size bag do I need?

Bag size Covers At
8 ounce 113 gallons 1/2 tsp per gallon
1 pound 226 gallons 1/2 tsp per gallon
44 pound 9,944 gallons 1/2 tsp per gallon

Conversions: 1 teaspoon weighs 4 grams. 1 tablespoon weighs 12 grams. 1 cup weighs about 6.75 ounces. Half a pound of powder is roughly 19 tablespoons.

What makes ours different

The coconut water powder market is a mess. Here is what to look out for, and where we stand on each of it.

  1. 01

    Filler ingredients

Beware: Many products are cut with starch, maltodextrin or minerals, which dilute the purity and the effectiveness. You pay for coconut water and you get a bag that is partly something else.

BuildASoil: No fillers. 100 percent pure freeze dried coconut water powder, and nothing else.

  2. 02

    Anti-caking agents and hidden carriers

Beware: Most coconut water powder is spray dried with maltodextrin, dextrin or gum blended in specifically to keep it free flowing. A powder that never clumps is usually a powder with starch in it.

BuildASoil: We add nothing at all, so ours can develop soft clumps. Those clumps dissolve completely, and they are your proof there is no filler in the bag.

  3. 03

    Inferior drying methods

Beware: Spray drying uses heat, and heat degrades the enzymes and hormones that make coconut water worth using in the first place.

BuildASoil: Freeze dried, which removes water without heat and preserves the nutritional integrity of the coconut water.

  4. 04

    Low quality imports

Beware: A lot of what is on the market is bought off Alibaba, and some of it is not genuine coconut water powder at all.

BuildASoil: Sourced from organically grown coconuts, direct from the farm. No middleman distributors.

  5. 05

    Lack of transparency

Beware: Most companies will not tell you where it came from, how it was dried, or what else is in the bag.

BuildASoil: You just read all three, in detail, including the parts that are inconvenient for us.

  6. 06

    Natural batch variation

Beware: Nobody wants to admit that an agricultural product changes with the season. So when the color or the smell shifts, customers assume something is wrong.

BuildASoil: Because ours is pure, with no stabilizers evening things out, weather and harvest timing will shift the color and aroma a little. That is what a real agricultural product does. It does not affect quality or performance.

Storage and clumping

Soft clumps of BuildASoil freeze dried coconut water powder inside an open bag

About as clumpy as it gets. Most bags look better than this. Every clump here dissolves.

Store it cool and dry, and keep moisture out of the bag.

Pure freeze dried coconut water is hygroscopic, so it pulls moisture from the air and can develop soft clumps. That is normal and it is not a defect. It is what happens when there is no anti-caking agent in the bag.

The clumps dissolve completely. Everything in here is water soluble, so there is nothing in a clump that can fail to go into solution. Drop it in your water, give it about 10 minutes, then stir.

If a bag ever arrives as a solid brick that will not break apart or dissolve, that is a different problem and we want to hear about it at support@buildasoil.com.

A note on food grade

Our 44 pound bags are fully organic certified and food grade. The smaller bags are the same powder from the same source, but they are not currently packed in a food grade facility, so they are sold for horticultural use only. We are in the process of moving all sizes into food grade packing.

Questions

My bag has clumps in it. Is something wrong?

No. Clumping is normal and it is a sign of purity, not a defect. Pure freeze dried coconut water pulls moisture from the air and sticks to itself. Products that never clump generally have starch or gum added to stop it.

Drop the clump into your water, let it sit about 10 minutes, then stir. It dissolves completely. Nothing in this bag is insoluble, so there is nothing in a clump that can fail to dissolve.

What does it actually do for my plants?

Coconut water is loaded with cytokinins, the phytohormone group associated with cell division and lateral branching, which is why it has been used as a growth supplement in plant tissue culture for decades. It also brings sugars, minerals, vitamins and amino acids that feed both the plant and the soil biology. Growers use it foliar and as a drench through veg and flower.

How much do I need?

Half a teaspoon to a teaspoon per gallon of water. An 8 ounce bag makes 113 gallons at the half teaspoon rate, a 1 pound bag makes 226 gallons, and the 44 pound bag makes 9,944 gallons. For most home growers, a 1 pound bag lasts a very long time.

Why is it more expensive than the coconut water powder on Amazon?

Two reasons. Freeze drying costs considerably more than spray drying. And we are not selling you 30 percent maltodextrin at coconut water prices. Compare the ingredient panel, not the sticker.

Can I drink it?

The 44 pound bag is organic certified and food grade, so yes. Use about 1.5 tablespoons per 8 ounces of water to reconstitute it. The smaller bags are the same powder but they are not currently packed in a food grade facility, so they are sold for horticultural use only.

Wow!

The coconut water is amazing! I always do amendments to my soil in the evenings, so they have overnight without any sun hitting the leaves. I woke up the next morning to very dark green leaves on my tomatoes and peppers, which told me they were showing good nutrient uptake. I was a little worried about how dark green the leaves were, but my plants are very happy. I have been organic fruit and vegetable growing for over 40 years, I had no idea how great the addition of coconut water would be to my garden. I first learned about coconut water for gardening from the Build A Soil YouTube channel, after researching several other products on the market, I saw there was no other company with the quality of the coconut and aloe they sell.

I’m very pleased with Build A Soil products, they are truly a stand out in the market. It’s refreshing to find a company that is honestly dedicated to bringing the best organic nutrients to the market, and not just a bunch of….
