Delivery and Shipping

Shipping Policy

Notice: CHECK THE SHIP BY DATE ON EACH PRODUCT PAGE

Each product will have an estimated ship date and those dates are accurate and being monitored everyday.

Below you'll find a detailed explanation as to what to expect for the different ways we handle orders.
1. Order now, with ships by and delivered by dates available
2. Estimated Ship Date with no delivery dates available: We have manufacturers that will ship directly to you in the event we are out of stock. This means that we do not know exactly when it will ship but we encourage our partners to get the items out within 3 days. Occasionally this will take longer and is not 100% in our control.

3. Backordered: This is because the product is currently in route to us or we are waiting on part of the item to produce. When this happens we still know what to expect with accuracy and will tell you when to expect the shipment.

BuildASoil Shipping and Freight Policy:

  1. If you select a service at checkout that is how we will be shipping.
  2. BuildASoil Shipping – We decide the most economic carrier. USPS, FEDEX or UPS
  3. BuildASoil Freight – All orders over 350lbs or a volume exceeding 15 cubic feet may utilize freight for delivery. Notice: To expedite your freight order, many of the smaller items will be shipped separately. The remaining larger bulkier items will be sent via freight. IF YOUR ORDER IS ONLY QUALIFYING FOR FREIGHT SHIPPING AND YOU BELIEVE THIS IS INCORRECT, CONTACT US!

Free Shipping? Only available to contiguous U.S.

Shipping Times: After Fulfillment

  1. BuildASoil Shipping – 1-5 Days Shipping (USPS, Fedex, UPS)
  2. BuildASoil Freight – 1-7 Days Transit time depending on distance. Please note that the estimated delivery on freight shipments is the estimated date that the shipment will reach the nearest terminal to your delivery location, and final delivery can take anywhere from 1-10 business days following the delivering terminal receiving the shipment. The carrier will reach out to you to schedule final delivery. Please input an accurate phone number and shipping address during checkout for delivery.
  3. Specific shipping selected at checkout:
  4. Overnight – Will ship out same day or next business day.
  5. 2 Day Shipping – Will ship out same day or next business day.
  6. Specific Carrier Selected and Paid for: We will use your selected carrier

How is shipping calculated?

We use the product length, width, height, and weight. We send this info through a custom system that calculates the absolute best box to combine your items into. This box and weight info is then sent within seconds to the carrier and back again to display the real time rates. We do not ever add money to our shipping rates.

How does freight work?

Freight shipping is our go to shipping option for when your order has become too big to ship through ordinary parcel. With freight shipping, your order will go onto a box truck or semi trailer. Depending on whether you are a residential or commercial customer, we will make sure the proper accessories are selected from our end to make delivery as easy as possible for you! With a freight delivery, the shipping carrier will contact you and likely schedule a delivery appointment to make sure you are there at time of delivery and can sign for the shipment.

Do not sign for your order until you have confirmed an identical count of boxes, bags, rolls, bundles, pails, etc. and have checked very carefully for apparent and/or concealed damage. We will not accept any responsibility for missing and/or damaged items unless you note a count discrepancy and/or identify damage on the bill of lading at the time of delivery!

Tracking and Receiving Orders:

All orders shipping via FedEx or USPS, you will be provided with tracking information via an email to the email address provided on the order on the day the order is shipped. Please contact us immediately if you think your shipment is lost or if your shipment arrives damaged.

When your order arrives, open the package immediately and inspect the content against the packing slip; it is especially important to check viability on living products immediately. Notify us immediately of any shortages or damage, do not discard any damaged items or shipping cartons. The shipping company may require an inspection prior to approving any claim.

Claims Policy:

Visible Damage, Concealed Damage, and Missing Content Claims - Visible Damage is defined as any damage to the packaging that is identifiable without opening the package at the time of delivery. Concealed Damage is defined as any damage that is not immediately noticeable at the time the package is opened or when the product is first used. Missing Content is defined as any package that is missing product that the packing slip states is included. These types of claims must be made directly to BuildASoil within 5 business days of delivery. Any claims made after that time cannot be honored. Please contact BuildASoil at 855-877-7645 or email Support@BuildASoil.com to make such a claim.

Incorrect Delivery and Lost Package Claims - Incorrect Delivery is defined as any incident where the driver delivers the package to the wrong address or individual. Lost Packages may occur in two ways. First, lost packages may occur when packages are not able to be located within the carrier's network. Second, a package may be considered lost when the carrier claims delivery was completed by leaving the package on the doorstep, but the customer cannot locate the package. Both incorrect delivery and lost package incidents are usually discovered through standard tracking of the package.

Claims for either of these problems must be made directly to BuildASoil upon discovery. No claims will be honored after 30 days from shipment date. Please contact BuildASoil at 855-877-7645 or email Support@BuildASoil.com to make such a claim.

Incorrect Product Claims - BuildASoil must be notified directly within 30 days of shipment of any package received where contents incorrect. Please contact BuildASoil at 855-877-7645 or email Support@BuildASoil.com to make such a claim.

Useful Info

Building your own soil? This is our preferred method...

This Recipe is inspired by and credited to Mr. "ClackamasCoots" aka "LumperDawgz"

I have always wanted to offer a nutrient kit in the style of ClackamasCoots. This nutrient kit is proven. It works because it is such a simple and affordable starting point to base your soil from. Use this kit and our free DIY nutrient E-Book and you will have healthy soil and healthy plants.

(CC is directly connected to this Nutrient Kit, it's his recipe and he helped us create the kit and a portion of the proceeds go directly to him)

What you'll be getting in the Kit

Nutrients:
(Use at 2.5 Cups Per cubic foot of soil or about 5-6 Tablespoon per gallon of soil)

1. Crustacean Meal - Crab and Shrimp
2. Kelp Meal - Thorvin Organic Icelandic kelp
3. Neem Cake/Karanja Cake: Ahimsa
4. Milled Malted Barley - Premium Organic 2 Row Malted Barley

Minerals:
(Use at 4 Cups Per Cubic foot of soil or about 1/2 Cup per gallon of soil)

1. BuildASoil Basalt - Our Favorite Rock Dust for trace minerals. Highly paramagnetic.
2. Gypsum Dust - Calcium and Sulfur
3. Oyster Shell Flour - Calcium Carbonate - Adds available calcium and limes the Peat moss.

We separate the two so that the natural moisture in the rock dust doesn't effect the raw nutrients. Dump all the material into your soil for the proper mineral and nutrient balance.

What You'll Need To Get To Finish The Recipe:

To finish this recipe you will need equal parts of the below,

1 Part Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss: Available in 2.2 Cubic Foot Bales, 3.0 Cubic Foot Bales and 3.8 Cubic Foot Bales at most gardening stores. Notice: The 2.2 Bale will fluff up to about 3.0 Cubic Feet, the 3.0 Bale will fluff up to about 4.67 Cubic Feet (Most people will round up or down to the nearest Cubic Foot) and the 3.8 Bale will fluff to about 6 Cubic Feet.

1 Part High Quality Compost or Worm Castings: Search for local compost or castings on craigslist or order some here on our website. If opting to use worm castings, we advise using only 5-15% of the 33% total compost due to the potential for sodium excess.

1 Part Aeration Amendment: Something to aerate the soil like perlite does in normal potting mix. We like to use Pumice and Rice hulls but you can use whatever is available to you including perlite, rice hulls, lava rock, pumice etc.

You'll notice there isn't any High P ingredient like Soft Rock Phosphate or Fish Bone Meal and after speaking with Coot about this I realized a few things. This Kit has many ingredients that contain Phosphorous at normal levels which will not be harmful to Mycorrhizal fungi. High P amendments can have a negative effect on the soil Mycorrhizal life, for this reason Coot recommends using this recipe.

Here is the Mix as written by ClackamasCoots:

Equal parts of Sphagnum peat moss, some aeration deal (pumice, rice hulls, lava rock - whatever is sitting in the garage) and finally some mix of humus - my compost, worm castings some black leaf mold I bought from the local 'worm guy'

To each 1 c.f. of this mix I add the following:
1/2 cup organic Neem meal
1/2 cup organic Kelp meal
1/2 cup Crab meal (or Crustacean meal when available - it has Shrimp meal with the Crab meal. It's a local product from the fisheries on the Oregon & Washington Coasts)
4 cups of some minerals - rock dust

After the plant is in the final container I top-dress with my worm castings at 2" or so and then I hit it with Aloe vera juice and Comfrey extract. Or Borage. Or Stinging Nettle. Or Horsetail ferns. Whatever is ready.

That's it.

Why re-invent the wheel? This proven mix is simple.

If you intend on using sphagnum peat moss then this kit is perfect for you. With the low PH of peat moss this kit comes with oyster flour to add lots of calcium and also help raise the ph to proper levels.

If you would like Build A Soil with another base like, Bagged Potting Soil, Pro-Mix, Sunshine Mix or even Coconut Coir then you'll want to check out our other products.

Why is this Nutrient Kit So important?

"A wonderful thing about a balanced, mineralized soil based on the soil's exchange capacity is that everything else becomes easier. The soil pH self-adjusts to its optimum, plant disease and insect problems largely disappear, water retention, drainage, soil texture, and rate of decay of organic matter all become self-regulating and automatic, weather permitting. The grower knows that the nutrients are in the crop because the nutrients are available in the soil. The soil life is active and healthy and helping to make these nutrients available, and the plants growing on this ideal soil have free-choice of any nutrient they want, in balance, a balance designed by intelligent science and observation."
